Make 2020 a More Restful Year

The beginning of a new year is always full of resolutions and good intentions to take better care of ourselves. But if you’re busy preparing for a new baby, getting used to life with a newborn or chasing after your littles, those resolutions often get put on the back burner.

There is one thing we can do to improve our overall wellbeing for a happier and healthier 2020— make rest a priority. Getting a full eight hours of sleep may be an impossible goal, but committing to small steps that help you feel more rested shouldn't be. It's important to make time for the things that keep you healthy because Healthy Moms = Healthy Families.

We believe so strongly in this, we're kicking off 2020 by challenging moms to have a more restful 2020: one small step at a time. We're asking you to commit to healthy habits like taking a long walk once a week, trying a new healthy dinner recipe, drinking more water, or going to bed 15 minutes earlier.

Join our 2020 More Rest for Mama Challenge by sharing your answers to our questions for the chance to win a pair of comfy Belabumbum pajamas during our weekly giveaways in January.

more rest for moms in 2020 checklist

Why is this so important to us?

Studies show that 50% of adults are sleep deprived. Breathe easy at the fact that you’re not the only one running on fumes and iced coffee most days. In actuality, half the people you know are in the same boat. There are plenty of moms like you trying to juggle too much with too few hours in the day.

The old tip is to sleep when the baby sleeps but we all know that’s very often not possible, so even if the best you can do is put your feet up, and close your eyes for five minutes to rest and recharge, it could make a world of difference. Life will not end if you just put your feet up those extra few minutes before you start to tackle your tasks and projects.

Life is all about finding balance and making priorities—what matters, what comes first. In 2020, let it be rest :).

While we can’t always control how much sleep we get—thanks to little ones who rise early, commuting to work, getting kids to school and more—we can definitely improve the quality of the sleep we do get.

Having a nightly sleep practice can help make better sleep your new healthy habit:

Create a sleep ritual-sip something soothing, slip into comfy pjs, and turn the lights down low.

Put your phone to bed- We know browsing Instagram feeds can be relaxing and help you feel connected, but it's important to remember that screen time and blue light can overstimulate your brain and mess up your circadian rhythm.

Calm your mind- Take a few minutes to reflect on what you're grateful for, breathe deep—and if you cannot remove your phone from your life, at least try listening to soothing music or a meditation app.

Schedule it- We put every other important event on our calendar; we need to do the same for sleep and other healthy habits.

It’s a new year and a chance for a fresh start. Let’s vow to get more rest in 2020!

We hope you’ll join our 2020 More Rest for Mama Challenge to help inspire mamas to get more rest this year. Head over to our Instagram Highlights to join in. We'll select one entry per week to win a cozy pair of Belabumbum PJs.
