For nearly 20 years we've kept women comfortable and confident in their changing bodies and reminded mamas to take a moment for themselves. We're happy to share expert advice, helpful resources and reminders, and a little inspiration to help support you through your pregnancy, postpartum recovery, and breastfeeding journey.
In 1997 Arm’s Reach started a movement. Aiming to give parents a safe place for their infants to sleep and the benefits of co-sleeping, they created the only patented co-sleeping product on the market that attaches securely to a parent’s bed. We used Arm's Reach co-sleepers with our children and have always appreciated their commitment to safety and quality.
With this in mind, we asked Arm's Reach to share why this form of co-sleeping is not only the safest option, but also the option that allows both moms and babies to get more sleep. Here's what they told us:
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends infants under 6 months sleep in the same room as parents, but not on the same surface. Infants should be on a flat, firm surface with a fitted sheet – with no extra blankets or bedding. Room sharing in this way decreases the risk of SIDS by 50%.
It encourages bonding.
A Co-sleeper baby bassinet encourages healthy bonding every happy baby needs. A parent can reach out and soothe baby with just a touch before the baby wakes up all the way. It also allows for easy breastfeeding. Dr. Sears, one of the most influential pediatricians of the last 50 years, believes there is an optimal sleep distance from baby to parent. If a mom is breastfeeding, having baby too close can encourage baby to be an 'all night feeder,' but having baby too far can cause the infant to become afraid, looking for comfort. 'The Co-Sleeper seems to be the best distance for mom and baby to get the best night’s sleep,' says Dr. Sears.
It’s healthier for everyone.
Sleeping with baby close creates healthy sleep patterns for both mom and baby. With baby right beside mom, it decreases trips down the hallway to feed or comfort baby, making nighttime interruptions far easier to navigate, especially for moms recovering from a C-section. It’s also the safest option for premature babies.
Getting more sleep may sound like a distant dream to a parent of a newborn, but with all of these factors considered, that’s exactly what the Co-Sleeper bassinet can help new parents accomplish. And it’s what inspired the main philosophy behind Arm’s Reach: Sleep Safer, Sleep Closer, Sleep Better™
We love helping moms and babies get more sleep and are excited to partner with Arm's Reach for a giveaway. One lucky mom has the chance to win a VERSATILE™ CO-SLEEPER® in Interlock and our Starlit Mom & Baby 4-piece bundle. Enter on Instagram before Sunday, April 21, 2019 at 11:59pm EST. Good luck!
