yoga for mamas: downward facing dog
Downward Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana)
Downward dog is a yoga pose that builds strength and flexibility simultaneously. It’s a gentle inversion—the heart is above the head—that boosts circulation, which is important during pregnancy with the increased blood volume that baby brings. With proper alignment, it can help to minimize back and hip pain, as it reduces stiffness and opens the entire back body—from shoulders, to low back, to hamstrings. This is a pose that is easily modified for all stages of pregnancy.
